1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Oväder ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our mobile application on iOS and Android, including home screen and lock screen widgets.

Oväder is a weather application that shows local forecasts, hourly and weekly detail views, favorite cities, customizable hero metrics, and an optional "profane mode" that replaces standard weather summaries with colorful commentary. The App is designed to work primarily on your device. We do not require you to create an account, and we do not sell your personal information.

By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

3. Information we collect

We collect only the information needed to provide weather forecasts, keep your settings, and optionally keep widgets up to date while you travel. The categories below describe what the App may process.

3.1 Location information

With your permission, the App accesses your device's location services to determine where you are and show relevant weather. Depending on how you use the App, this may include:

• Precise location — latitude and longitude coordinates obtained via GPS, Wi‑Fi, or cellular signals.
• Approximate location label — a human-readable place name (such as a city or region) derived from your coordinates using your device's built-in reverse geocoding services.
• Background location — if you explicitly enable widget travel updates and grant "Always" location permission, the App may monitor significant location changes (about every 500 m on iOS, using cell and Wi‑Fi rather than continuous GPS) while the App is not in the foreground. Widgets refresh when you move roughly 5 km or more.

If you deny location permission, you may still use the App with a manually selected or default location (for example, Stockholm).

3.2 App preferences and settings

The App stores certain preferences locally on your device, including:

• Whether "profane mode" is enabled (also configurable in iOS Settings).
• Your selected hero metric slots (which weather details appear in the hero row).
• Whether widget travel updates are enabled.
• Whether you have dismissed onboarding or permission prompts related to widgets.

3.3 Favorite cities

If you save favorite locations, the App stores the city name and coordinates you choose locally on your device. Favorite cities are not uploaded to our servers because we do not operate backend user accounts for the App.

3.4 Cached weather data

To improve performance and reduce network usage, the App may cache forecast responses on your device. Cached data is tied to geographic coordinates and expires over time as fresh data is fetched.

3.5 Widget data

On supported platforms (including iOS home screen and lock screen widgets), weather snapshots and timeline entries are written to shared on-device storage so the widget extension can display current conditions without launching the full App. This may include temperature, weather icon, location label, and headline text.

3.6 Information we do not collect

We do not intentionally collect:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or postal address (unless you contact us voluntarily).
• Payment or financial information (the App does not include in-app purchases at this time).
• Contacts, photos, microphone audio, or health data.
• Advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking.
• Analytics profiles tied to your identity via third-party analytics SDKs.

4. How we use information

We use the information described above for the following purposes:

• To retrieve and display weather forecasts, current conditions, hourly detail, and weekly outlooks.
• To enrich forecasts with supplementary data such as UV index and air quality where available.
• To search for cities when you add favorites or browse locations.
• To personalize the App interface, including profane mode messaging and your chosen hero metrics.
• To keep widgets reasonably accurate, including optional background refresh while traveling.
• To cache data locally so the App remains usable with intermittent connectivity.
• To respond to support or privacy requests if you contact us.

Our legal bases for processing under applicable privacy laws (including the GDPR, where relevant) may include performance of a contract (providing the App you requested), your consent (for optional permissions such as background location), and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the App in a privacy-respecting manner.

5. How we share information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share limited information only in the circumstances below.

5.1 Weather and geocoding providers

To provide forecasts, the App sends geographic coordinates (and related query parameters) to third-party weather and geocoding services over encrypted HTTPS connections. These providers process requests according to their own privacy policies:

We choose reputable public data providers, but we do not control their infrastructure. We encourage you to review their policies: SMHI, Open-Meteo.

5.2 Platform services

Your device's operating system (Apple iOS or Google Android) may process location and geocoding requests through its own services when the App requests a place name from coordinates. Those services are governed by Apple's or Google's respective privacy policies.

5.3 Service providers

We may use infrastructure providers involved in distributing the App (such as Apple App Store, Google Play, or Expo Application Services for builds). Those parties may collect information required to deliver updates, crash reports, or store listings. That collection is governed by their terms, not this policy.

5.4 Legal requirements

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

6. Storage & retention

Most App data is stored locally on your device using mechanisms such as on-device key-value storage (AsyncStorage), iOS App Group shared containers for widgets, and platform settings storage for certain toggles.

We retain information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy:

• Preferences and favorites — until you change or remove them, or until you uninstall the App.
• Weather cache — for a limited period to support offline or fast loading, then refreshed or overwritten.
• Widget snapshots — until the next successful refresh or App removal.
• Support correspondence — as long as needed to resolve your inquiry and comply with legal obligations.

Uninstalling the App generally removes locally stored App data from your device, subject to standard platform behavior and any data retained by third-party services from prior API requests.

7. Widgets & background location

Oväder offers optional home screen and lock screen widgets that display current weather at a glance. Widget functionality relies on shared on-device storage and, if you opt in, significant location change monitoring to keep widgets current while you travel.

7.1 Widget travel updates (optional)

If you enable widget travel updates and grant "Always" location permission, the App monitors significant location changes (about every 500 m on iOS) to detect travel and refreshes forecasts and widget content when you move roughly 5 km or more. The App does not use continuous GPS tracking for this feature. Background location is not required for normal in-app use — only for this optional feature.

You can disable travel updates at any time by:

• Revoking "Always" or background location permission for Oväder in your device Settings.
• Declining the optional travel-updates prompt when it appears.
• Removing the widget from your home or lock screen.

7.2 Background tasks

On supported platforms, the App may schedule periodic background refresh tasks (for example, via iOS background processing or Android background work) to keep widget timelines current. These tasks use the last known location or a stored widget location rather than continuously tracking you when travel updates are disabled.

8. Your choices & rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including:

• The right to access information we hold about you.
• The right to request correction of inaccurate information.
• The right to request deletion of information we control.
• The right to restrict or object to certain processing.
• The right to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based.
• The right to data portability, where applicable.
• The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Because most data is stored locally on your device, you can exercise many choices directly: change permissions in Settings, delete favorites, reset hero metric slots, disable profane mode, revoke "Always" location permission to disable travel updates, or uninstall the App.

To make a privacy request, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

8.1 California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under California law.

8.2 European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland

If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR and equivalent laws. Our processing of location data for optional background widget updates is based on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

9. Children's privacy

Oväder is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App includes optional profane language in weather summaries when "profane mode" is enabled; parents and guardians should supervise use accordingly.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information where required by law.

10. International transfers

The App is operated from Sweden/Europe. If you use the App from outside this region, your information may be processed in countries where our service providers or platform partners maintain facilities, including countries that may not provide the same level of data protection as your home jurisdiction.

Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms recognized under applicable law.

11. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information processed by the App, including use of HTTPS for network requests and storage of sensitive preferences on your device rather than on our own servers.

No method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or our practices. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, provide notice within the App or through app store release notes.

Your continued use of the App after an updated policy becomes effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
